Has it really been four years? Well, no. It’s been longer, but basically it has been four years since Geek Night Out first opened its doors and released its geekiness into the world. If you got some of that on you, then we apologise, but you probably liked it.

To celebrate our 4th Birthday, we have an AMAZING show lined up for Sunday, April 1st.

We have three great acts lined up for the show who’d be lonely if you didn’t come! We have the fantastic Iszi Lawrence making her first ever appearance! Wil Hodgson returns to GNO after appearing at our Edinburgh Charity Special a few years back and finally, we are blessed to have Trevor Lock cover our stage with his comedy goodness.

As well as those illustrious guests, we have the usual crack team of Paul Gannon, running the night in the only way he can, Peter Dillon-Trenchard filling us in on his nerdy proclivities and improv group The Rogues making stuff up about all things geek!

There is also a very good chance there will be cake, fizzy pop and bunting!

So, please do yourself a favour and join us in our Time Out, Independent and Guardian-recommended live show at The Comedy Pub, Oxendon Street in London. The show starts at 8pm and did we mention it’s STILL FREE? You lot are spoilt! Details will be at our Facebook page. Do join us!

Paul is coming to America!

I am very proud to be joining up with Boston Improv’s Geek Week and Richard Sandling’s Perfect Movie to perform a very special show on April 25th this year.

If you are USA-bound and wished you could see the wonder that is Paul Gannon, this is your chance! You can watch Paul and Richard Sandling geek-out in a show filled with great stand up, silly sketches, amazing guests and British accents.

To celebrate this day, we at Geek Night Out thought we would share some of the interview we did with Jackson Publick. For those not in the know, he is the creator of Adult Swim’s awesome TV show The Venture Brothers. It is also his birthday today (along with someone elses!) so it seemed like a good excuse to let you hear the chat he had with Paul Gannon (our host and resident sycophant) a few months ago.

As a result, you can hear Jackson talk about Star Wars, his personal influences, hidden music tracks, Pulp, getting backstage at concerts, being lost in London, where he keeps his collectable figurines, what to expect at Comic Con (too late), the mythology of The Venture Brothers, toys, musicals and a whole host of other little titbits!

If you are a fan of The Venture Brothers, then you can’t afford to miss this. If you did, that wouldn’t make you much of a fan, now would it?

Geek Night Out Extra - With Jackson Publick

Richard and Fergus go out on a limb as an unknown comedian joins them at the Geek Night In studio for chat about his, um, whatever it is he does, and about anything remotely geeky he may or may not have heard of.

If that fails, then professional skater Naomi Grigg will re-geek the show with physics and how she used things like ‘The Laws of Motion’ to become a champion. She sees triangles happen.

We also play another round of Fergus Vs The Guest, explain as simply as possible why a DC/Marvel cross over film is unlikely and discuss the merits of speaking quietly in The Colosseum. Like Russell Crowe.

We’ve finally pulled our finger out and, by golly gosh, what a big lum we have for you!

We had SO much to put into this (irregularly released) podcast that we had to split it Kill Bill/Harry Potter style into TWO seperate podcasts.

In this, the part one, one, we have a special Richard Sandling-flavoured interview that covers his live show Richard Sandling’s Perfect Movie (I wonder who presents it?), his Edinburgh Fringe aspirations as well as all manner of off topic riffing. We discuss the problem with comic book movies, Roger Moore films, ‘men on a mission’ flicks and why Indiana Jones 4 was more than just a lost opportunity. In fact, we rarely stay on topic to get anything done.

As well as all that chatter, we have a few surprises as we find out what happens when two old ladies get to look after Schrodinger’s Cat and we delve into the hidden history of the lost radio show classic Nightmare Theatre.

If you have 49 mins to spare, we’d love to share it with you.

Matthew Watkins, here, was kind enough to chat to us about his Ghostbusters proton pack, back at the London Film & Comic Con in July. He’s such a big Ghostbusters fan that he put together his own podcast purely about, um, well, Ghostbusters.

Happy endings, eh? Once again, another season of Geek Night Out closes in style with what was easily our most packed show to date (in all senses of the word).

The 2010/11 season has been our most successful, with great audiences, fantastic guests and wonderful surprises by the Tardis full. Our July show was no exception. We were very lucky to be able to do our last show with help of Revolver Entertainment and Adult Swim as we delivered a very Star Wars-flavoured show.

It’s reasonably safe to say the show had everything (well, not literally, we didn’t have a kitchen sink or even girl on girl action)! Due to the fact that we were helping celebrate the release of the Robot Chicken Star Wars Special DVD, we felt obliged to tackle the famous space opera series in an irreverent as a way as possible.

Paul Gannon began the show with the famous Star Wars text crawl and proceeded to explain that every Star Wars joke has probably been done by now, so how about we look at some great Star Wars that didn’t have George Lucas’ stumpy fingers all over it!

The audience were treated to clips of Robot Chicken, Redlettermedia.com’s fantastic prequel trilogy reviews and a clip of some nerds going full-on badass with lightsabers. From there, we wandered into the world of Kent Valentine’s SW memories and how he managed to use the Jedi Mind Trick on a tramp.

Peter Dillon-Trenchard gave us his opinion on The Ewok’s movie, Caravan of Courage (which sounds like a Housemartin’s song) and then Perfect Movie’s Richard Sandling returned to the GNO stage with his memories of, or lack of, taking part in the documentary The People Vs George Lucas.

Jason Kavan came by to introduce his video sketch The Stand Up Wars, which you can watch right here, and impressed the crowd with his green screen tomfoolery! The Rogues improv group also popped into perform a scene, half improvised, half performed from the script of A New Hope and ended with Jawa sex.

We finished off our Star Wars special with a delightful piece of Darth Vader burlesque, as performed by the amazing Sophia Disgrace. Paul found it hard to stand up straight come the interval.

Once everyone had received the necessary interval break, the audience were treated to a sneak peak of Catie Wilkins‘ new 2011 Edinburgh show A Chip Off The Odd Block and were let in to the peculiarities  of her family and professional life.

As the show came to a close, Paul announced that GNO would be back in October for a new run and then people went home, happy and content. Paul went home by bus, for example.

At GNO HQ, we wanted to thank Revolver and Turner Broadcasting for helping us put together our Star Wars special and we also want to say a huge thanks to all the audiences and acts who helped support us this last year and make it our best yet!

So, guess what? We taped the show! Hopefully in a few weeks, we will have a ‘Cor, look what you missed’ video for you to view, but until then, stay glued to Geek Night Out.net for future show details, news of our new online radio show, videos from our recent Comic Con adventures and articles and podcasts aplenty.
